VISUtein™ What it will do for you: Every year literally millions of people around the world find themselves fighting for their sight, a sense that many of us take for granted until we confront the real possibility of losing it. Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in the world and the number-one cause of vision impairment in the United States. Closer to home, age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in western countries. Almost as debilitating is glaucoma, the "silent thief of sight." Approximately three million Americans alone fall victim to this condition, which can cause blindness if not treated in its early stages. In addition to these tragic eye problems, every single one of us combat daily challenges to enjoying healthy eyesight. Whether it's ultraviolet light in the atmosphere, eyestrain from staring at a computer all day, or simply pollution or air particles, potential dangers surround us, threatening what we often take for granted. Enrich's VISUtein™ contains a comprehensive combination of vitamins, minerals, herbs, and phytonutrients that create an approach to eye care, providing you with all the basics you need to support healthy eyes.* |

RESEARCH BRIEF VISUtein™ The Process of Seeing* The light-gathering portion of the eye is the retina, a thin sheet of neural tissue located on the back of the eye. Light enters the eye through the cornea and is focused by the lens onto the retina. Nerve cells within the retina convert the light to nerve impulses, which are carried to the brain via the optic nerve. The central part of the retina, the macula lutea, is the area of most acute vision because of the high density of nerve cells in this region. Accordingly, there is a well-developed circulatory pattern that provides nutrients to the retina. The macula has been shown to contain high levels of various carotenoid pigments. Two of these in particular, lutein and zeaxanthin, are preferentially deposited in the macula as well as the lens. These carotenoids have antioxidant properties, and it is hypothesized that these molecules, as well as a variety of antioxidant molecules, help to protect the macula and lens against free radical damage from the ultraviolet radiation in light.* |

| Ingredients:
Vitamin A (75% as Betatene® [natural beta carotene],25% as palmitate): Found primarily in carrots, betacarotene is converted by the body into vitamin A. It is a powerful antioxidant essential for healthy eyes, skin, and mucous membranes.* Riboflavin (vitamin B2): A vitamin from the B complex family that is necessary for red blood cell formation and metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins.* Zinc (as OptiZinc®): An essential trace mineral, zinc is used by the body in protein and carbohydrate metabolism and is an important factor in cell repair and healthy bone formation and support to the immune system.* Lutein (FloraGLO®): A member of the carotenoid family that provides antioxidative action to protect the body from oxidative damage and supports the eyes.* N-acetyl cysteine: A compound that is the building block for glutathione. Glutathione is one of the most important antioxidants in the body.*
|
Anthocyanidins
(from standardized bilberry extract): One of the groups of active
compounds in bilberry. They are known for their antioxidant
properties and support for eye health.*
Mixed carotenoids: They are a highly colored (red, orange, and yellow) group of fat-soluble plant pigments with antioxidant properties.* There are over 600 found in nature. Zeaxanthin: A carotenoid, which is part of a large family of compounds found in fruits and vegetables, that demonstrates antioxidant properties.* Cryptoxanthine: A carotenoid, which is part of a large family of compounds found in fruits and vegetables, that demonstrates antioxidant properties.* Alpha carotene: A carotenoid, which is part of a large family of compounds found in fruits and vegetables, that demonstrates antioxidant properties.* Lycopene : A carotenoid, which is found in tomatoes providing the rich red color. It has been identified as a key ingredient to support prostate health.*
